Festival of Northern Lights Owen Sound
Last weekend family came in from Windsor Ontario and we walked the Northern Lights. The kids as well as the adults were captivated by over 350 lighted displays and more than 18 kilometers of glittering lights strung along the banks of the Sydenham River in downtown Owen Sound. This display is lit daily from 5 pm to 11 pm. Many downtown stores, specialty shops and restaurants are open. Take a horse-drawn sleigh ride and capture the warmth and spirit of the Holiday Season as the Festival celebrates with eight weeks of special events, making Owen Sound the place to be this winter. The Chi-Cheemaun has also just arrived at its home for the winter docked along the harbour in down town Owen Sound.

The Big Canoe was to arrive in Owen Sounds harbour last night at 10pm. and will be docked along the wall till spring. The ferry was on its way back from Thunder Bay after an extensive inspection. The cost for repairs and work was to total approx. 1.7 million dollars. Make your way this morning to down town Owen Sound to finish up some last minute shopping and you will see the Big Canoe is back and at home for the winter.

Kelso Beach will be smoken this Sept 15, 16, 17 & 18th with the smells of different BBQ sauces. Five professional “ribbers” make this one of their many stops on the 2011 North American tour. These teams compete for trophies including best ribs and sauce. This is a family event with free gate admission and live music. Vistors only have to pay for food and beverages. Sauble Beach Sunset Volleyball Festival-July 16-17
Sauble Beach will be home to the always popular Sunset Volleyball Festival. The two days will have an Official OVA Tournament, along with recreational Co-ed 6’s & competitive 4’s tournament. They have partnered with Rock the Beach and United Way this year, with the registration proceeds supporting local United Way initiatives. Rock the Beach is providing a great line-up of live local bands all day Saturday and Sunday. Ian Thornley and Big Wreck will headline this years festival. Tuesday nights during July and August at Sauble Beach’s Lakeshore Blvd, you don’t want to miss the outdoor dancehall with live 50’s 60’s music. Bayfest 2011 Sarnia Rogers Bayfest
Bayfest in Sarnia started back in 1999 with a single performance and has grown to a two weekend event. Every summer a flood of national and international tourists come for the annual festival. Rogers Bayfest has done wonders for the city of Sarnia. Last year alone more then 75,000 people from 12 of Canada’s provinces and territories, 27 states and great distances overseas attended. The festival is not only one of the largest tourist attractions for the area, but also one of the biggest economic stimulators.
