This event starts the last weekend in January-1st week of February. Great outdoor and indoor activities for the whole family. It is the Largest Winter Event In Ontario. Sauble Beach is lit up with its night time parade, Christmas tree bonfire, crafts, food booths and the battle of the bands. The following weekend then kicks off with pancakes on the grill at 630 am. and 40 other different events throughout the day. You don’t want to miss Wiarton Willey’s prediction, the coming of spring. This event has been taking place since 1956. Make it a Great weekend or week and stay at Lake Francis Cottages located 20 min. from the festival.

Stoney Keppel Riders Club was formed in 1972. It is one of the oldest organized snowmobile clubs in Ontario. Lots of hard work and dedication from the land owners and members goes into snowmobile trails to make it a safe and an enjoyable experience. This club holds many different events including a sled swap and pancake breakfast at the Shallow Lake Service Station,  the Wiarton Trail Blazers Poker Run scheduled for Sat. February 13 2010 and  Family Day Chili Cookout on Sat. Feb. 13 2010 from 11a:m-3p:m. Many of our guests at lakefranciscottages look forward year after year to meeting new friends at this Great Club. Ray and I have enjoyed stopping in at the Stoney Kepple Shack when we are snowmobiling with our kids and friends. When you are out for a ride on a beautiful snowy day take the time and check out the warm and friendly atmosphere at the Stoney Keppel Riders Club located on the Top Trail “B” in District 9.

Sawmill Cross Country Skiing- Bruce Ski Club

Sawmill Cross Country Ski Trail is maintained by the Bruce Ski Club, this is the best skate-skiing trail in the area.  From mid-December to February, a weekly snowfall of 1/2 metre is common.  The trail is both hilly and flat.  Much of the trail is in the bush and there is also a heated chalet available to all skiers.  Maximum loop is 8.5 km. On any given night when the stars are out and the snow is falling, the trail lights are on. Come out and  join the fun this winter. Make it a Great getaway weekend here in Grey Bruce. Sauble Beach Cottage Rentals are quiet at this time of year. The town of Sauble Beach almost has a ghostly feeling to it. You would never know that this is the same place that attracts thousands of guests every summer. We drove along Lake Huron, on our way to see the Sauble Falls. The rain that has  fallen in the past month, raised the water levels quite high.  It was a beautiful sight to see, the  trees were in full color with the waterfall cascading over the rocks.  It was a great to spend a day with the family.

Well the Attack Hockey season has opened to a Great start. Parking lot at The Bay Shore  in Owen Sound is full. Best Western Inn On The Bay  is a happening place. My home town Windsor will play here on Saturday September 26 2009 at 730 pm. Regular ticket prices are Adults $15.50, Children 2-13 $8.00 and Youths 14-18 $13.50. Friends are coming in from Windsor Ontario and staying at our waterfront cottages located 15 minutes from The Bay Shore to see this exciting game. The bets are in, the party begins. Over the past 8 years many of our guests at Lakefranciscottages have enjoyed hiking The Bruce Peninsula Trail. It is very easy to tell when these guests are joining us because they will take 2 cars. They will be up at daybreak having a coffee & breakfast outside on the dock. They will be dressed in hiking cloth including a good pair of shoes and backpack. Many have purchased a Day Guide Book -(Bruce Trail Map) to follow and will give them lots of information throughout the day. Leaving in both cars they will drop off 1 at the end of the path they will travel. The Bruce Trail is Canada’s oldests and longest footpaths. We believe more changes have happened to The Niagara Escarpment during the past 100 years than in the previous 9,000 years. The Niagara Escarpment is protected by legislation to ensure that it will be enjoyed by future generations. More than 1000 volunteers donate their time and knowledge to the Bruce Trail.
