Great Cross Country Skiing
Sawmill Cross Country Ski Trail is maintained by the Bruce Ski Club, this is the best skate-skiing trail in the area. From mid-December to February, a weekly snowfall of 1/2 metre is common. The trail is both hilly and flat. Much of the trail is in the bush and there is also a heated chalet available to all skiers. Maximum loop is 8.5 km. On any given night when the stars are out and the snow is falling, the trail lights are on. Come out and join the fun this winter. Make it a Great getaway weekend here in Grey Bruce. Sauble Beach Cottage Rentals are quiet at this time of year. The town of Sauble Beach almost has a ghostly feeling to it. You would never know that this is the same place that attracts thousands of guests every summer. We drove along Lake Huron, on our way to see the Sauble Falls. The rain that has fallen in the past month, raised the water levels quite high. It was a beautiful sight to see, the trees were in full color with the waterfall cascading over the rocks. It was a great to spend a day with the family.

Over the past 8 years many of our guests at Lakefranciscottages have enjoyed hiking The Bruce Peninsula Trail. It is very easy to tell when these guests are joining us because they will take 2 cars. They will be up at daybreak having a coffee & breakfast outside on the dock. They will be dressed in hiking cloth including a good pair of shoes and backpack. Many have purchased a Day Guide Book -(Bruce Trail Map) to follow and will give them lots of information throughout the day. Leaving in both cars they will drop off 1 at the end of the path they will travel. The Bruce Trail is Canada’s oldests and longest footpaths. We believe more changes have happened to The Niagara Escarpment during the past 100 years than in the previous 9,000 years. The Niagara Escarpment is protected by legislation to ensure that it will be enjoyed by future generations. More than 1000 volunteers donate their time and knowledge to the Bruce Trail. Grand Bend Cottage Rentals were busy for the August long weekend. My brother Denis came up from Windsor and said the traffic on Highway 21 was heavy. Grand Bend Cottages can be waterfront or a few blocks from the shoreline. The strip in Sauble Beach has many shops similar to those at Wasaga Beach and Grand Bend. Grand Bend Cottages and Wasaga Beach Cottages are approx. 2 hours away from Lake Francis Cottages. Guest at Lakefranciscottages have been really enjoying, catching Bass and Pike with the kids. The boats are out, the lines are in and the fish are waiting to be caught. We have Aug. 29-Sept7 open at our 2 bedrm and 3 bedrm waterfront cottages. Since it is the final week we are offering families a 3 day min. instead of a full week if they wish so they can spend some quality time before the summer ends.
